You Are Not Broken. You Do Not Need To Be Fixed.

I was recently diagnosed with ADHD which is very common in women with Turner Syndrome. I’ve been listening to the “Translating ADHD” podcast to learn more about how ADHD affects neurology so I can better understand myself and my patients with ADHD. Something hit me while listening to an episode a few days ago.

They made the point of ADHD not being something that gets cured. It's not a pathology to be treated, fixed, and never dealt with again. It's simply how your body works and deals with its environment.

It made me pause because this is EXACTLY how I approach patient care. This is true of almost any health issue short of cancer, infection, or trauma.

You are not a pathology . There is nothing wrong with you. Your body simply works in a unique way. There may be things you need to do to help your body out. That does not mean you are broken and need to be fixed. That also means the "cure" you keep being promised doesn't exist. You and your healthcare team have to do the work to support your body's needs. This also points to why maintaining your spine and nervous system with ongoing, regular adjustments is so important. Your back is not something to be fixed, your spine is something to be cared for.

This is why I'm on a mission to change our system and why I chose chiropractic care as my means to do it. It's why I've committed to an affordable cash-based practice model. I'm here to remove interference to your body's control system and allow your body to work its unique magic. That's it.
