It's Spinal Health Month!!

I love Spinal Health Month because it is a great reminder to take care of your spine! It is the literal center of your body’s function, mobility, and health.

With the exception of the 12 Cranial Nerves, every other nerve in your body branches from the 33 Spinal Nerve Roots that come from your Spinal Cord. The Spinal Nerve Roots travel through the spaces between the vertebra in your spine. From there, they branch out to nerves that control every organ, muscle, and cell in your body.

What happens if your vertebra stop moving normally? This can irritate those nerve roots and cause decreased or abnormal function in the organs, muscles, muscles and cells they control. After awhile, you may experience different symptoms such as pain and illness.

Doctors of Chiropractic use safe, gentle adjustments to keep the vertebra moving normally and remove the irritation to the nerve roots. Recent research has also found that adjustments act a “reset button” to nerves that may not be working correctly.

Another consequence of vertebra moving abnormally is degeneration. If the vertebra are allowed to move abnormally over a period of time, the body will compensate. It does this by creating new bone where it shouldn’t be. Take a look at these x-rays that show how this degeneration progresses!

Again, your regular chiropractic adjustments help keep the vertebra moving correctly. That helps prevent this from happening to your precious spine!! There is no such thing a spine transplant, you only get one. Treat it well!

I often remind patients that your spine requires and deserves as much attention as your teeth. We all brush and floss our teeth every day and go for regular dental checkups. This Spinal Health Month, commit to showing your spine the same love you show your teeth. Commit to regular spinal checkups and ensuring your spine and body stay healthy so you can stay healthy and enjoy life to the fullest!
