Do you have “2020” Vision for Your Family's Health?
I can’t believe it's almost been two years since I started Cedar Valley Mobile Chiropractic! I have loved every moment of making chiropractic more accessible to my Cedar Valley neighbors.
In looking forward to my own goals for 2020, I've been thinking about some conversations I've been having with some of my patients about their health goals for the new year. This new year is especially exciting because it also marks the start of a new decade.
Some of the things we've been discussing are increasing mobility, increasing brain function, and keeping the kids from catching bugs at school.
Maintaining mobility is hugely important for our overall health and quality of life. Balance and the risk of falling has been a big topic for my older patients as we gear up for 2020. This video will show how chiropractic can reduce your risk of falling.
Maintaining proper motion in your joints is also a big factor in your mobility. Chiropractic adjustments keep joints lubricated and moving normally.
Chiropractic can be a huge help in helping you prevent falls and being more active in 2020. Most of my older patients started care because they wanted to be able to keep up with their kids and grandkids.
Another “hot topic” as we’ve been discussing our 2020 goals has been brain function. We hear a lot about keeping our brain healthy, preventing dementia, and helping our children’s brains stay healthy as they develop. Doctors of Chiropractic are specialists in keeping your brain healthy. My cranial adjustments may help Grandma and Grandpa “stay sharp”, Mom and Dad be more productive at work, and the kiddos perform better in school. Every member of the family needs to work on keeping their brain as healthy as possible, no matter what age you are!
My parents have both experienced different major injuries to their brains and central nervous systems in the past four years. It has been amazing to see how well they have been able to recover due to the long-term chiropractic care they both received prior to their injuries. Their recovery is far from complete and has not been at all easy. However, they are both grateful for the progress they’ve made and how lucky they are compared to others that have had similar injuries.
One of my favorite things about being a chiropractor is watching my post-concussion, post-stroke, and patients that have had other insults to their brains and nervous systems regain functions that they never thought they would get back. It’s so rewarding to watch!!
The last thing I wanted to touch on was boosting immunity with chiropractic adjustments. As kids go back to school after the holiday break, we see an uptick in colds, flus, ear infections, and all the other little nasty bugs kids spread around. A 1975 study showed that chiropractic care can increase your immune function by up to 200%. A 1989 study found that children who received regular chiropractic care had 50% fewer ear infections. Let’s take a look at how successful chiropractic care was during one of the worst epidemics in history. In 1918, 20 million people died in a global flu epidemic. In Davenport, Iowa where the BJ Palmer Clinic was located, here were the statistics. 50 medical doctors treated 4,953 cases of the flu. 274 of those people succumbed to their illness. 150 chiropractors and chiropractic students in the same city treated 1,635 cases of the flu. Only one of those patients died. 1918 records document 925 deaths per 10,000 people treated with medicine. They record only 25 deaths per every 10,000 people treated with chiropractic adjustments. Who wouldn’t want these odds for their children?
